Robert A. Gleason
Nominated by President Donald Trump as a director of the Amtrak Board and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in September 2025, Mr. Gleason has decades of experience in private enterprise, public service, and state and national political organizations.
A native of western Pennsylvania, Mr. Gleason is a consultant for government relations firm Cassidy & Associates. He previously spent five decades in the insurance industry, having joined his family's insurance brokerage firm in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, in 1965. Mr. Gleason had advanced to chair and CEO of The Gleason Companies when it was acquired by Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. in 2011. He retired from Gallagher, an international insurance brokerage and risk management services firm, in 2015.
Mr. Gleason served as chair of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania from 2006 to 2017, and he was Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1985 to 1987. In addition, Mr. Gleason served as a member of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, Pennsylvania State Transportation Commission, Pennsylvania Lawyers Fund for Client Security and the Commission on Presidential Scholars.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Mr. Gleason was on active duty from 1962 to 1965. He then entered the Air Force Reserve, leaving in 1972 with the rank of Captain. This experience led to his appointment by President Trump in 2018 to serve as a member of the Board of Visitors for the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Mr. Gleason earned his Bachelor of Science, Insurance, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He later served as a trustee of the university from 1998 to 2013.
